The Love We Shared ๐
Learning to see the love that carried you
What if the love you've been searching for
was already there?
Part of the healing journey is learning to see the love that was present in our lives all along. Many of us get so stuck in the trauma and the pain that we forget that love was there, too. Maybe it came from a parent, a grandparent, a teacher, a friend, or a nana who watched over you while your parents worked.
As I began my own healing journey many moons ago, ๐ I was deeply stuck in the pain โ replaying it, reliving it, unable to look past it. ๐ฅบ
I saw the abuse. The yelling. The screaming. The police. The control. The sadness. Like so many of us, I believed the only way out was to get a good job, make a lot of money, and everything would be alright.
Thatโs what society teaches us: chase external validation, chase money, and life will fall into place.
But, honestly thatโs not the case. That just keeps us disconnect from our bodies, our dreams, and love.
To an extent, money can help. But when you don't deal with your past, it follows you into your present and your future.
The story keeps replaying. The money may arrive, but the pain grows louder in the body. The mind starts to feel like it's unraveling. You may find yourself attracting drama or retreating into isolation.
So where is the love?
It starts with you. It starts with being willing to see your whole story ๐ โ not just the trauma, but the love that was woven through it too.
Itโs there. I know it is, because you are love.
Yes, you ๐ซต๐ฝ reading this right now.
YOU ARE LOVE!
You love others so deeply, yet sometimes it feels like you are unworthy of receiving it yourself. Iโve been there. You are not alone. ๐ซ
These are 3 ways I started to see the love within myself again:
Feel it. I had to allow the sadness, anger, emotions to surface ๐ really feel it, not push it down. This made space within my body to start receiving and feeling more love.
Forgive it. I had to forgive my parents, my grandparents, and all those who caused harm.
Including myself. This allowed me to see the lesson from each experience, no longer carrying the burden (yes, that invisible weight you carry on your back) ๐ฌRelease it. ๐ I had to give myself permission to let go. Reminding myself over and over again: โI release what no longer serves me.โ That meant letting go of people, experiences, spaces, beliefs, and ideas that were keeping me trapped in survival. Really letting go to start connecting to unconditional love.
As I repeated this path, something beautiful began to happen. The lessons inside the experiences were presenting themselves with so much more ease. I started to see the love that had always been there.
My dad playing basketball with me as a kid.
My mom rubbing my back while I rested on her lap.
My grandma teaching me how to pray.
My nana taking care of me when my parents were working.
Teachers who mentored me and believed in me.
Friends who kept me going when home life was hard.
Music and dance that kept me rooted in my joy.
The love was always there. I just had to move through the darkness to finally see the light.
That doesnโt mean pretending the hardships didnโt happen. It doesnโt mean erasing the wounds. What it means is this: when you acknowledge those wounds, when you meet them with love, tenderness, and compassion, they begin to heal, and what they leave behind is the lesson, the love.
You Are A Seed
Healing is about growing out of the darkness and toward the sun. Just like a seed, we must navigate the dark ๐ชด wiggling our way through the soil until we finally break the surface and push into new skies.
Visualize with meโฆ
A seed in the dark. No light, no map, just the weight of the earth above it. But something inside says keep going. So it reaches, inch by inch, until the first green appears. ๐ฑ Tender, alive, and from that one brave push, something big and majestic is born. It starts to becomes a flower, a tree, a plant, or maybe even a magnificent avocado tree.
And here is the thing, friends โ that seed doesnโt do it alone. It needs soil. It needs water. It needs sun. It needs the wind, the bees ๐ ๐๐ , the whole ecosystem. Without the support and love of the other elements, it remains just a seed.
โจ The same is true for us. ๐ป
I couldnโt be where I am today without the help I received from teachers, coaches, healers, friends, and family. I had to call in the love and be open to receive it, which is another challenge within itself. I also had to invest in support so I could learn how to love myself. Key work here is LOVE MYSELF. I knew how to love others, but myself ๐
๐ฝโโ๏ธ I wasnโt taught how to do that growing up, it took time to unlearn what love wasnโt and what love is.
I had to choose self-development. I had to choose evolution. I had to choose self-love.
Itโs a choice, fam EVERYDAY. And it is the best choice I have ever made.
Today, I am more at peace than I have ever been. More connected. More loved. More abundant than I ever allowed myself to notice. Life is rich, and it just keeps getting better.
I see how showing up for myself is changing everything around me. Because I am full, I can pour into my community from overflow not from empty. I can love more. I can show others how to love themselves, too.
There is still much to learn. I am forever a student of life. But I am honored to also step into the role of teacher ๐ค to walk alongside others on this journey.
A moment of reflection
๐ป Who showed up for you when you were young?
๐ป Who was your sun, your water, your soil?
๐ป What is one way you show yourself love?
Are you ready to see your whole story?
The pain and the love?
